November 30 – First Sunday of Advent
Advent is a season of waking up—of living with eyes open to the reality that our time on earth is limited.
The first step in preparing for death is not fear or avoidance, but living your life in accordance with the Lord. Not as if Jesus is coming tomorrow, but as if He is present with you in every moment. Remember: all men die, and every day is a chance to grow in faith, hope, and love.
For those facing serious illness, the Church offers the Anointing of the Sick, a sacrament that strengthens faith, comforts the soul, and brings healing to the body. Through the anointing of the head and hands and the prayers of the Church, Christ’s grace meets us where we are—guiding us toward life that is eternal.
Even in death, life is changed, not ended. The Church’s funeral rites proclaim this hope, celebrating the transformation Christ brings to every soul. In these prayers, hymns, and symbols, we witness our Catholic faith in action: the body is honored, the soul commended to God, and the community reminded that God’s love never fails.
As Advent calls us to awaken, may this hope shape how we live each day: with eyes open, hearts surrendered, and hands ready to serve the One who gives life.

El Adviento es una época de despertar, de vivir con los ojos abiertos a la realidad de que nuestro tiempo en la tierra es limitado.
El primer paso para prepararse para la muerte no es el miedo ni la evasión, sino vivir la vida de acuerdo con el Señor. No como si Jesús fuera a venir mañana, sino como si estuviera presente contigo en cada momento. Recuerda: todos los hombres mueren, y cada día es una oportunidad para crecer en la fe, la esperanza y el amor.
Para aquellos que se enfrentan a una enfermedad grave, la Iglesia ofrece la Unción de los Enfermos, un sacramento que fortalece la fe, consuela el alma y trae sanación al cuerpo. A través de la unción de la cabeza y las manos y las oraciones de la Iglesia, la gracia de Cristo nos encuentra donde estamos, guiándonos hacia la vida eterna.
Incluso en la muerte, la vida cambia, no termina. Los ritos funerarios de la Iglesia proclaman esta esperanza, celebrando la transformación que Cristo trae a cada alma. En estas oraciones, himnos y símbolos, somos testigos de nuestra fe católica en acción: se honra el cuerpo, se encomienda el alma a Dios y se recuerda a la comunidad que el amor de Dios nunca falla.
Mientras el Adviento nos llama a despertar, que esta esperanza dé forma a nuestra vida cotidiana: con los ojos abiertos, el corazón entregado y las manos dispuestas a servir a Aquel que da la vida.
