November 23 – The Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe

Who is my king—me, or Jesus Christ?

Our pride resists that question. We like to rule our own little kingdoms—our schedules, our comfort, our control. But to proclaim Christ as King means something more than words. It means placing our pride, our plans, and our expectations beneath His rule, His Kingdom, His Lordship.

At the cross, two men show us the two ways we can respond to Jesus’ kingship.
Gestas mocks: If you are really the Christ, fix this.
Dismas humbles himself: Remember me when you come into your kingdom.

Both saw the same suffering. Only one recognized the King.

Pride says, “God should act the way I expect.”
Humility says, “Even if I don’t understand, You are Lord.”

This is the hard teaching of our faith. He reigns not through power, but through surrender. His victory is not in avoiding the cross, but in embracing it.

This week, take a moment to ask:
When life isn’t going the way I wanted, how do I respond?
Do I complain, or do I surrender?

To call Jesus King is to let Him reorder everything beginning with yourself.
