INFANT BAPTISM

Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. - Matthew 28:19

Beginning the Journey

At St. Ann, the sacraments are woven into a lifelong journey of discipleship. Rooted in community, worship, and ongoing formation, we invite all seeking the sacraments to fully engage in the vibrant life of our parish. CELEBRATING TOGETHER

Infant baptisms at St. Ann are celebrated in groups on approximately two Saturday mornings each month, with limited spots available on a first-come, first-served basis. Please note: baptism dates cannot be reserved or confirmed until all steps in the process below are fully completed — we ask that you wait to make any travel or celebration plans until then.

STEP 1: Complete the Baptism Preparation Class

Registered and active parishioners can attend a Baptism class at St. Ann or upload a certificate of completion (in registration form) from a recent class taken elsewhere (within the last four years). Please note that classes are reserved for families forming missionary disciples here at St. Ann. Families living outside of the territorial boundaries of St. Ann are encouraged to register and participate in the formation offered by their local parish.

STEP 2: Submit the Baptism Registration Form

Include a copy of your child’s birth certificate (upload required).

STEP 3: Submit Godparent Forms

Each godparent must complete an online form confirming that they are practicing Catholics in good standing via the link that will be provided once Baptism registration from parents is complete.

Please note: the name used in the Godparent form will be the name used in the child’s Sacramental records. Enter your name exactly as it should appear.

STEP 4: Pay the $50 Baptism Processing Fee

Submit payment (instructions will be provided on the registration form or at the parish office).

Note: This fee covers administrative and preparation costs.

General FAQs About Baptisms

  • At St. Ann Parish, we understand the sacraments not as isolated rites of passage, but as necessary signs along the lifelong journey of discipleship. Rooted in Christ and His Church, the sacraments are entrusted to the care of the parish community — the spiritual family where faith is nurtured, relationships are formed, and the Christian life is lived out in communion with others.

Because of this, we invite those seeking Baptism and other sacraments to be active participants in the life of our parish. This means more than attending a class or checking a box — it means committing to a way of life: regular Sunday Mass, ongoing formation, engagement in the parish community, and stewardship expressed through time, talent, and treasure.

Families living outside the territorial boundaries of St. Ann are encouraged to register and participate in the life of their local parish, where their child’s Baptism can be celebrated within their immediate faith community. However, if a family feels a genuine call to belong to St. Ann and is committed to living their discipleship here long-term, they may begin preparation for Baptism after at least three months of active parish life. This includes regular Sunday Mass attendance, visible participation in community life, and consistent support of the parish through one of our ways to give.

Ultimately, our desire is to walk with families in forming missionary disciples — not just for a moment, but for a lifetime. The sacraments are the Church’s treasure, and we receive them most fruitfully when they are embedded in a life of lived faith and ongoing conversion.

FAQs About Godparents

  • Yes, only fully initiated (Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist) Catholics who attend Mass regularly and can receive the Eucharist are eligible to be godparents.

  • Yes, if married, the godparent’s marriage must be recognized by the Catholic Church. If they are married civilly or in another Christian tradition, they are not eligible to serve as a godparent until their marriage has been validated by the Catholic Church.

God uses moments such as the baptism of a new baby in the family to bring about unity to the broader family with the Church. There are many different marriage situations and much confusion about teachings of the Catholic Church in this area. We are always interested to help work toward unity and reconciliation with families and the church so let us know if you have any questions or how we can help.

  • We recommend selecting two godparents for your child, but you may decide to have only one. If you choose two godparents, one must be male and the other must be female, and both must meet all the requirements.

FAQs About English Baptism Preparation Class

  • Because the Church recommends that the baptism take place shortly after the birth of a baby, parents are encouraged to register for Baptism preparation during pregnancy. We encourage parents to sign up for class at least three months before the month they are thinking about a Baptism date. Please see available classes HERE.

  • Parents attend one class in-person, and we offer child care through the nursery during that class. Parents receive discussion questions and video links to complete virtually after the in-person class, and they are encouraged to include godparents in those discussions. We do not offer in-person Godparent classes in English at this time.

  • If you've already taken the classes at St. Ann or another parish within the past four years, you are not required attend the Parent Session. When you fill out your registration page, you will find a section on the registration page to upload your previous Baptism Formation Certificate or put the date and location completed.

  • We do not offer Godparent classes. Godparent classes are also not required for Baptisms here at St. Ann.
