November 9 – Feast of The Dedication of The Lateran Basilica in Rome

The Lateran Basilica in Rome is the mother of all churches — a reminder that the Church is not just a building but a living body. St. Paul tells us, “You are God’s building, and the Spirit of God dwells in you” (1 Cor 3:9,16). Every vocation — priest, religious, or lay — is a stone in that living temple, a way that Christ continues to feed, forgive, and shepherd His people.

Today, we celebrate the gift of the priesthood and all vocations. But fostering vocations is not just for bishops or pastors — it’s a responsibility for every Christian.

3 Ways You Can Support Vocations

1. Live your own vocation: Show Christ in the way you love, serve, and pray. Your example can inspire others to follow His call.

2. Speak life into a calling you see: If someone seems to be living holiness in a unique way, encourage them on something specific you notice and if they have considered a specific vocation.

3. Pray for all vocations: Not just priests and religious, but for all who are called to live holy lives. The Church needs more holy men and women to shine Christ’s light in the world.

La Basílica de Letrán en Roma es la madre de todas las iglesias: un recordatorio de que la Iglesia no es solo un edificio, sino un cuerpo vivo. San Pablo nos dice: “Ustedes son edificio de Dios, y el Espíritu de Dios habita en ustedes” (1 Cor 3, 9.16). Cada vocación (sacerdotal, religiosa o laical) es una piedra en ese templo vivo, una manera en que Cristo continúa alimentando, perdonando y guiando a su pueblo.

Hoy celebramos el don del sacerdocio y de todas las vocaciones. Pero fomentar las vocaciones no es solo tarea de los obispos o párrocos; es una responsabilidad de todo cristiano.

3 maneras de apoyar las vocaciones:

1. Vive tu propia vocación: Muestra a Cristo en la forma en que amas, sirves y oras. Tu ejemplo puede inspirar a otros a seguir su llamado.

2. Da vida a un llamado que veas en otro: Si ves a alguien vivir con una santidad especial, anímalo mencionando algo concreto que hayas notado y pregúntale si ha considerado una vocación específica.

3. Ora por todas las vocaciones: No solo por sacerdotes y religiosos, sino por todos los que son llamados a vivir vidas santas. La Iglesia necesita más hombres y mujeres santos que irradien la luz de Cristo en el mundo.
