April 12 – Easter Sunday (Divine Mercy Sunday)
In today’s Gospel, Thomas struggles to believe that Jesus truly returned from the grave. Much like us, he is presented with the reality of Jesus’ resurrection and struggles to comprehend it. Although he has been a follower of Jesus, he wants to see the marks on Jesus’ hands and feet as proof of His presence. How often do we ask God to prove Himself and increase our faith?
Jesus mercifully provides Thomas with a tangible opportunity to grow in belief despite his initial struggle. In touching Jesus’ wounds, Thomas is met with love, proclaiming, “My Lord and my God!” We, too, are invited to encounter the Lord in a personal way.
Though we may enter this Sunday in a state of disbelief, He is present to us here and now. We are called to live life in the Spirit and trust in His merciful love. Will we respond to His invitation to have a personal encounter with Him and allow Him to be our Lord and our God?
We may not touch his wounds on this side of Heaven, but He is always here with us—in prayer, in others, in the Eucharist, in the Word. Whether you have been close or far from the Lord, He will receive you in His mercy and love, just as He did with Thomas. You are never too far from His reach.

En el Evangelio de hoy, Tomás lucha por creer que Jesús realmente ha resucitado de entre los muertos. Al igual que nosotros, se le presenta la realidad de la resurrección de Jesús y le cuesta comprenderla. Aunque ha sido seguidor de Jesús, quiere ver las marcas en sus manos y pies como prueba de su presencia. ¿Con qué frecuencia le pedimos a Dios que se nos muestre y aumente nuestra fe?
Jesús, en su misericordia, le ofrece a Tomás una oportunidad concreta para crecer en la fe a pesar de su duda inicial. Al tocar las heridas de Jesús, Tomás se encuentra con el amor y proclama: “¡Señor mío y Dios mío!”. Nosotros también estamos invitados a encontrarnos con el Señor de manera personal.
Aunque podamos llegar a este domingo con dudas, Él está presente aquí y ahora. Estamos llamados a vivir en el Espíritu y a confiar en su amor misericordioso. ¿Responderemos a su invitación de tener un encuentro personal con Él y permitirle ser nuestro Señor y nuestro Dios?
Tal vez no podamos tocar sus heridas en esta vida, pero Él siempre está con nosotros: en la oración, en los demás, en la Eucaristía, en la Palabra. Ya sea que hayas estado cerca o lejos del Señor, Él te recibe con misericordia y amor, como lo hizo con Tomás. Nunca estás demasiado lejos de su alcance.
