March 1 – second Sunday of Lent

We come to Mass each Sunday to be filled—to receive Jesus’ Body and Blood—but we are not meant to stay here. We are meant to go out and glorify the Lord with our lives.

As we read about Jesus’ transfiguration in the Gospel, we recall the image of the transfiguration within our church. Like Raphael’s painting The Transfiguration, the apse mural is centered on Jesus being revealed in glory before Peter, James, and John. However, you will find another story unfolding in this mural.

The image of a boy possessed by a mute spirit, as noted in Mark 9:14-29, and his father is found in the bottom right section of the apse mural. The father asks Jesus if He can heal the boy, and Jesus responds, “Everything is possible to one who has faith.” The father cries out, “I do believe, help my unbelief!” Jesus then commands the spirit to leave, and the boy is healed.

This moment reminds us that faith does not need to be perfect to be powerful. When we offer up the ordinary gifts of bread and wine at Mass, Jesus turns them into His very own Body and Blood. When we offer Him our weaknesses, he brings about strength. He takes what we offer and does something greater than we could imagine.

This week, bring your weaknesses before Him and trust that He will transform them into something greater—I do believe, help my unbelief! May our newfound strength reignite our faith, glorify His name, and allow us to go out and transform the world.

Venimos a Misa cada domingo para ser llenados: para recibir el Cuerpo y la Sangre de Jesús pero no estamos llamados a quedarnos aquí. Estamos llamados a salir y glorificar al Señor con nuestras vidas.

Al leer sobre la transfiguración de Jesús en el Evangelio, recordamos la imagen de la transfiguración dentro de Nuestro templo. Al igual que en el cuadro “La Transfiguración” de Rafael, el mural del ábside se enfoca en Jesús siendo revelado en su gloria ante Pedro, Santiago y Juan. Sin embargo, encontrarán otra historia desarrollándose en este mural.

La imagen de un niño poseído por un espíritu mudo, como se menciona en Marcos 9,14-29, y su padre se encuentra en la sección inferior derecha del mural del ábside. El padre le pregunta a Jesús si puede sanar al niño, y Jesús responde: “Todo es posible para el que tiene fe”. El padre exclama: “¡Creo en ti Señor; ayudame en mi incredulidad!”. Entonces Jesús ordena al espíritu que salga, y el niño queda sanado.

Este momento nos recuerda que la fe no necesita ser perfecta para ser poderosa. Cuando ofrecemos los dones ordinarios del pan y el vino en la Misa, Jesús los transforma en su propio Cuerpo y Sangre. Cuando le ofrecemos nuestras debilidades, Él suscita fortaleza. Toma lo que le entregamos y hace algo más grande de lo que podríamos imaginar.

Esta semana, presenta tus debilidades ante Él y confía en que las transformará en algo más grande: “¡Creo en ti Señor; ayudame en mi incredulidad!”. Que la nueva fortaleza que recibimos reavive nuestra fe, glorifique su nombre y nos impulse a salir y transformar el mundo.
