   Fifth Sunday of Lent

“I am the resurrection and the life; whoever believes in me, even if he dies, will live, and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die.” Jn 11:25-26

Today is the last of the “scrutinies” - moments when the Church calls the “Elect”, preparing for baptism, to further heights of conversion, "deepening their resolve, and to hold fast to Christ and to carry out the decision to love God above all” (RCIA Scrutinies). As a Church family, let us reflect upon these scrutinies; so that we may always believe and proclaim Jesus Christ - the Resurrection and the Life.

Do I fight against worldly deceits of every kind?

Am I grateful to God, recognizing how He has chosen to rescue me from my ignorance of eternal life and to set me on the way of salvation?

Could I this week read about a martyr who has shed their blood for Christ so as to encourage me in the hope of eternal life?

Do I have a horror of sin, recognizing how it distorts life?

Do I pray for those who are saddened by the death of family or friends, that they may find comfort in Christ?

What could I do this week to prepare so that at Easter I may again be confirmed in my hope of rising to life with Christ?

Is there anything I could do that the whole world, which God has created in love, may flower in faith and charity and so receive new life?

Father of life and God not of the dead but of the living, you sent your Son to proclaim life, to snatch us from the realm of death, and to lead us to the resurrection. Free us from the death-dealing power of the spirit of evil, so that we may bear witness to our new life in the risen Christ, for he lives and reigns for ever and ever.

Primera Lectura - Ez 37, 12-14 | Salmo Responsorial - Salmo 129  | Segunda Lectura - Rm 8, 8-11 | Evangelio - Jn 11, 1-45

“Yo soy la resurrección y la vida. El que cree en mí, aunque haya muerto, vivirá; y todo aquel que está vivo y cree en mí, no morirá para siempre” Jn 11, 25-26

Hoy es el último de los "escrutinios" - momentos en los que la Iglesia llama a los "Elegidos", que se preparan para recibir el bautismo, a mayores niveles de conversión, "profundizando en su determinación, y a aferrarse a Cristo y llevar a cabo la decisión de amar a Dios por encima de todo" (Escrutinios del RICA). Como familia eclesial, reflexionemos sobre estos escrutinios; para que siempre creamos y proclamemos a Jesucristo - la Resurrección y la Vida.

¿Lucho contra las mentiras mundanas de todo tipo?

¿Estoy agradecido con Dios, reconociendo que Él ha decidido rescatarme de mi ignorancia sobre la vida eterna y encaminarme hacia la salvación?

Esta semana, ¿podría leer sobre un mártir que ha derramado su sangre por Cristo para animarme en la esperanza de la vida eterna?

¿Tengo horror al pecado, reconociendo cómo distorsiona la vida?

¿Rezo por los que están tristes por la muerte de familiares o amigos, para que puedan encontrar consuelo en Cristo?

¿Qué podría hacer esta semana para prepararme para que en la Pascua pueda ser renovada mi esperanza de resucitar a la vida con Cristo?

¿Hay algo que pueda hacer para que el mundo entero, que Dios ha creado en el amor, florezca en la fe y en la caridad y reciba así una vida nueva?

Oh Padre de la vida eterna, que no eres Dios de muertos sino de vivos, y que enviaste a tu Hijo como mensajero de la vida, para arrancar a los hombres del reino de la muerte y conducirlos a la resurrección, te rogamos que libres a estos elegidos de la potestad del espíritu maligno, que arrastra a la muerte, para que puedan recibir la nueva vida de Cristo resucitado y dar testimonio de ella.
