February 8 – Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time

The world doesn't need more cleverness. It needs more saints.

In ten days, we'll receive ashes. But today, Christ says something startling: You are salt. You are light. Not "try to be"—you already are.

Salt exists for something else—to preserve, to season, to make food worth eating. Our world has gone bland. Not just secular culture, but our own hearts. We've grown comfortable with tepid faith, room-temperature commitment, discipleship without edges.

Christ calls us to add flavor to the blandness. To bring zest to a world rotting from within.

"A city set on a mountain cannot be hidden." You're exactly where God placed you—not by accident. Your workplace, your family, your neighborhood—these are your lampstand.

Paul understood: "I resolved to know nothing except Jesus Christ, and him crucified." Not brilliant arguments, but weakness and trembling. Our witness is most powerful when it relies least on our power.

People are scrolling, consuming, achieving—still hollow at 3 AM. The Lord has more for them. But they'll only discover it if we shine.

So here's the question: What flavor are you adding? What light are you giving?

Be salt. Be light. The world is waiting.

El mundo no necesita más astucia. Necesita más santos.

En diez días recibiremos las cenizas. Pero hoy Cristo dice algo impactante: Ustedes son sal. Ustedes son luz. No dice “intenten serlo”; ya lo son.

La sal existe para algo más: conservar, dar sabor, hacer que la comida valga la pena. Nuestro mundo se ha vuelto insípido. No solo la cultura secular, sino también nuestros propios corazones. Nos hemos acomodado a una fe tibia, a un compromiso a medias, a un discipulado sin filo.

Cristo nos llama a dar sabor a lo insípido, a llevar intensidad a un mundo que se descompone desde dentro.

«Una ciudad puesta en lo alto de un monte no puede ocultarse». Estás exactamente donde Dios te ha puesto —no por casualidad. Tu trabajo, tu familia, tu vecindario: ese es tu candelero.

San Pablo lo entendió: «No quise saber nada más que a Jesucristo, y a este crucificado». No argumentos brillantes, sino debilidad y temblor. Nuestro testimonio es más poderoso cuando menos depende de nuestra propia fuerza.

La gente mira las pantallas, consume contenido, logra metas… y aun así se siente vacía a las 3 de la mañana. El Señor tiene algo más para ellos. Pero solo lo descubrirán si nosotros brillamos.

Así que la pregunta es: ¿Qué sabor estás aportando? ¿Qué luz estás ofreciendo?

Sé sal. Sé luz. El mundo está esperando.
