December 21 – Fourth Sunday of Advent

Advent ends with a stark reminder: without Christ, humanity is drawn toward darkness. The world tries to tell us that Hell is just a concept. But no, Hell is truly the reality of life separated from God. Sin, left unchecked, hardens the heart, isolates the soul, and deepens emptiness. It is the coldest, loneliest place, where the consequences of choosing life apart from God are fully realized.

There is a striking beauty in this 4th Sunday of Advent falling on December 21st, the winter solstice—the longest night of the year. In just four days, the world will witness the birth of our King and Savior, the moment when God entered human history to redeem us, beginning the work of drawing all creation back to Him.

Through Baptism, God opens the door to eternal life, washing us clean and calling us into His family. Through Confirmation, He strengthens us to live courageously in that light, to proclaim the Gospel, and to share the joy of Christ with others.

As we prepare to celebrate Christmas, let us remember that God calls each of us to respond, to follow Him, and to live in accordance with His grace here and now.

El Adviento termina con un claro recordatorio: sin Cristo, la humanidad se inclina hacia la oscuridad. El mundo intenta decirnos que el infierno es solo un concepto. Pero no, el infierno es realmente la realidad de una vida separada de Dios. El pecado, si no se controla, endurece el corazón, aísla el alma y profundiza el vacío. Es el lugar más frío y solitario, donde se comprenden plenamente las consecuencias de elegir una vida alejada de Dios.

Hay una belleza sorprendente en este cuarto domingo de Adviento, que cae el 21 de diciembre, el solsticio de invierno, la noche más larga del año. En solo cuatro días, el mundo será testigo del nacimiento de nuestro Rey y Salvador, el momento en que Dios entró en la historia humana para redimirnos, comenzando la obra de atraer a toda la creación de vuelta a Él.

A través del Bautismo, Dios abre la puerta a la vida eterna, nos lava y nos llama a formar parte de su familia. A través de la Confirmación, nos fortalece para vivir con valentía en esa luz, para proclamar el Evangelio y para compartir la alegría de Cristo con los demás.

Mientras nos preparamos para celebrar la Navidad, recordemos que Dios nos llama a cada uno de nosotros a responder, a seguirle y a vivir de acuerdo con su gracia aquí y ahora.
