Thanksgiving Baskets: Sunday, November 23, 2003
A tradition beginning in 1994, the St. Ann’s Men Club has organized the distribution of Thanksgiving Baskets to those in need on the Sunday before Thanksgiving Day. Last year, over 180 baskets were distributed to families in Coppell, Flower Mound, and Lewisville. Family names are obtained from Coppell ISD, Wellington, and those provided to our parish office. Volunteers that have assisted, especially those that have distributed the baskets to the recipients, have departed the event with a sense of fulfillment, joyful smiles, uplifted spirits, and tears of satisfaction of making “a difference” in someone else’s life.
How can you assist? Help make a difference by donating your resources and/or time:
1. Donate cash (label an envelope “Thanksgiving baskets” and place in the collection basket), canned goods, building bucks for turkeys, turkey bucks, or turkeys.
2. Volunteer to work with local grocery stores for donations of goods or cost reductions.
3. Volunteer to work with a dairy to obtain milk and eggs.
4. Volunteer to obtain loaves of bread and potatoes.
5. Volunteer to assemble boxes on Saturday Nov 22nd and organize can goods.
6. Volunteer to pack baskets on Sunday Nov. 23rd.
7. Volunteer to deliver baskets on Sunday Nov 23rd. RCIA program will provide majority of the drivers.
8. If you have any business contacts in the grocery, dairy, or bread business, please supply those contacts.
Each Thanksgiving basket will contain a disposable cooking pan, turkey, dressing mix, eggs, milk, bread, and an abundance of canned goods. If you are interested in volunteering, contact Eddie Provencio at Provencio_Eddie@yahoo.com or call 817-605-2210.
